Agriculture and economy in the Jura mountains
Made up of the highest peaks and the most extensive forests of the Swiss Jura, the Vaud Jura regional natural park is famous for its landscapes and its exceptional views. The park is a model region for sustainable development. It initiates and supports projects that enhance nature, strengthen economic activities and raise awareness of the environment. The Park is home to many endangered species and bears an important responsibility in terms of maintaining biodiversity. It has a large number of nature reserves, and has the most beautiful examples of high marshes. The economic activity of the Jura Vaud Park has developed around renowned products of agriculture and watchmaking. In addition, this mountain territory with contrasting environmental conditions is a good place to study the effects of climate change. The field trip will allow to discover this natural patrimony and results of various recent studies. After the visit of an alp, a bus will bring us to “The watchmaking space” in the Vallée de Joux, a museum that hosts several collections of timepieces from around the world. The field trip will continue with a typical Swiss meal at the “Fromagerie Gourmande” and a guided tour of the latter in the afternoon.
